National Conservation Leadership Institute Fellowship Applicant Package Please PRINT this page for future reference Instructions for Applicants:
Applicant packages will only be accepted when a nomination package has been submitted from the applicant's agency director or organization chief executive officer. Applicants will: - Prepare a standard resume detailing job experiences that highlight leadership potential as described below. The resume should be limited to three pages; please do not send a CV.
- Write a 2-3 page essay that discusses your desire to participate in the NCLI, what you hope to gain from the NCLI experience, and what you hope to contribute to the conservation community. Your essay should be written using your authentic voice rather than a technical style. Write the essay with sincerity and from your heart. Highlight your committment, passion, and diversity.
- Complete the online form and attach your resume and essay. PLEASE use the file naming convention as described on the application form page.
- Select three people to write recommendation letters for you. It is important to find people who can provide insight into your current and future role in the conservation community as well as your leadership potential. Ask that your recommenders not send form letters.
- Follow up with your nominator and recommenders to be sure their letters are submitted by the deadline of May 31.
- DO NOT include your social security number on any of your application materials.

- Capacity to lead organizational change
- Capacity to motivate people
- Capacity to build effective coalitions
- Capacity to deliver results
- Conservation work experience
- Managerial courage
- Writing ability
- Education
