Welcome to the National Conservation Leadership Institute (NCLI, Institute) website!  These are challenging times for everyone, and the urgency and need for significantly increasing leadership capacity within natural resource organizations is unparalleled. The Institute is truly an exceptional opportunity to do just that. As we move into our fifth year, the Institute in many ways has become institutionalized as the “war college” for natural resources, ensuring the legacy will be protected.

As the Executive Director of the NCLI, please allow me to act as your guide here on our homepage.

Each year professionals within the natural resource conservation community are nominated by their top administrators to compete for one of 36 fellowship spaces. It is an honor to be nominated. It is a testament to how highly the organization sees their nominee’s leadership potential.

The NCLI is not another good leadership program, nor is it a training course or “tool box” approach. Such characterizations hardly get at the heart of the matter. The NCLI is more an experience that departs from “techniquing” or oversimplifications with regard to exercising leadership. A majority of the alumni describe the experience as “life changing”. Personally, it is the most impressive professional development experience I have witnessed in my professional career-- one extraordinary solution for extraordinary times.
